Assessment of insulin sensitivity

Measures of insulin sensitivity or resistance have been determined in clinical research projects and epidemiological studies. Can these be applied to individual patients? What response should the laboratory give to the request 'insulin resistance?' or indeed 'HOMA please'?

Homework(!)/case histories will be circulated to participants prior to the workshop. Can we come up with some answers?
