Programme Information

Oral Presentations

There will be three sessions for oral communications; one free communication session and one dedicated to the theme of 'Focus beyond the laboratory', taken from selected abstracts submitted by all delegates. The final session will consist of papers submitted by Members of the Association for Clinical Biochemistry, under 35 years of age - The Siemens Award. All oral presentations must also be presented as posters.

Poster Sessions

Poster sessions will be held on all three days of the meeting. Poster topics will coordinated with the scientific programme of the day. Selected posters will be introduced by the presenting authors and reviewed daily in lunchtime poster workshops. A Siemens Poster Prize will be awarded for the three best posters.

Published Abstracts

Abstracts that are accepted for presentation at the meeting will be published as a supplement to the Annals of Clinical Biochemistry.

Siemens Award

The Siemens Award is made on the basis of an oral communication presented by a Member of the Association under 35 years of age at the time of competition. The winner will receive a Silver Medal and a cheque for £500. Entrants should submit abstracts for this award on this website and should tick the relevant box to indicate that the abstract should be considered for the Award.

Siemens Poster Prize

Siemens annually award prizes for the 3 best posters presented at Focus. The aim of the Awards is 'to promote innovation in clinical laboratories'. The prizes are bursaries which may be used to further develop the presented work or help fund attendance at a scientific meeting. Bursaries are awarded on the condition that either a report of the additional meeting is prepared for Siemens and the ACB Clinical Sciences Reviews Committee. This report may be submitted to ACB News for publication.

Professors Prize

This is awarded by the UK Heads of Academic Departments of Clinical Biochemistry to an individual under 40 years of age who has made an outstanding contribution to the field.

CPD Accreditation

Focus 2007 will be fully accredited for CPD schemes of the Royal College of Pathologists and the Institute of Biomedical Science.
