Welcome

I have great pleasure in inviting you to participate in our Annual National Meeting - Focus 2007, which will be held from April 23rd - 26th at Manchester Central Convention Complex.

This modern conference venue is part of the former G-Mex exhibition complex and is ideally situated in the centre of Manchester. It offers superb facilities including a large tiered lecture theatre and a purpose-built exhibition hall, which will also house the poster sessions.

Accommodation is available close by at a number of hotels with a range of prices.

Mike Toop and Steve Goodall, co-chairs of the Scientific Programme Committee, have organised a superb, wide-ranging programme with a conference theme of 'Focus beyond the laboratory' which should appeal to all.

The traditional early morning workshops will continue on both Tuesday and Wednesday mornings with topics especially chosen to have a wide appeal. We invite you to submit abstracts for poster presentations and oral communications and we intend to continue with the popular poster workshops. A session organised with UK NEQAS for Clinical Chemistry has been incorporated into the programme and we thank Dr Jonathan Middle and Colleagues for their input.

Focus 2007 will encompass a full exhibition, which has received excellent support from our commercial partners and present the best opportunity to see the latest equipment.

Social events start with our Corporate Members' Night which will be held a few short miles away in Salford Quays at the Imperial War Museum North, which will be transformed for the evening. Events continue with various activities on Tuesday and finish with a Banquet with the theme of 'Casino Royale'. The Banquet will be held in the recently opened Hilton Hotel where you are welcome to visit the 23rd Floor and enjoy spectacular views of Manchester.

Manchester has been transformed in recent years and has that "buzz" of a successful city. Come and visit us. Enjoy the science, exhibition and social events and feel that "buzz".
